Ira is 'of Counsel' to the law firm of Helmer, Conley and Kasselman, P.A., a statewide New Jersey law firm. He has been authorized by the New Jersey Supreme Court to be designated a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney. He specializes in state and federal criminal defense as well as related administrative matters.

Ira has had a distinguished career in the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office including several assignments as Section Chief. He spent 6 years in the Homicide Unit, including 3 years as Deputy Chief, and has extensive experience in the investigation and trial of many complex cases.

Ira also has extensive practice experience in the United States federal court system. He was assigned to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey as a Special Assistant United States Attorney between February 1999 to October 2001, and again from March 2012 to September 2014, where he handled a number of complex criminal cases in federal court. He has been accepted under the Federal Criminal Justice Act (CJA) as a member of the CJA panel of appointed federal criminal defense counsel.

Ira represents clients in all types federal and state criminal matters at the investigative, pre and post indictment, trial and appellate stages. He is well versed in firearms and Second Amendment law. His practice includes white-collar criminal defense including but not limited to federal healthcare fraud, anti-kickback violations and financial institution/bank-fraud.

Ira graduated with honors from the Delaware Law School in 1991, has a BS in accounting from Rider University, and is admitted to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the United States District Court as well as the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ira has served as a member of the Camden County Bar Association’s Criminal Practice Committee and Committee on Professionalism. He has been certified as a New Jersey State Police Instructor and has regularly provided law enforcement agencies with legal advice. He has been a speaker on legal topics at continuing professional legal education seminars, the Rutgers University School of Law, Camden County College, and the Camden County Bar Foundation.
