How To Avoid Being Stopped By New Jersey Police Offers For Motor Vehicle Offenses

I'm Brian Jacobs, I'm an Attorney with Helmer, Conley & Kasselman. We represent clients in criminal court who have been charged with either a criminal offense, municipal offense. And oftentimes, these charges stem from a police officer stopping our client. More often than not, the reason why a police officer stops a car is for some type of minor violation. People often ask me, "How can I avoid being stopped?" So there are a couple simple rules to abide by.

The first one is to have all your credentials in order. So you have your license, your registration, and insurance and that they're not expired, that's the first thing. And then the second thing is to have all of your equipment working on your car. Don't have a burned out tail light, don't have a burned out headlight. These are really basic rules. But as long as you follow these rules, you'll avoid being stopped by the police and either arrested, charged, and found guilty of an offense that otherwise you would go unnoticed but for those really simple rules.

Now if you've been stopped by the police, and you've been charged either with a motor vehicle offense or a criminal charge leading from that stop, feel free to contact us at Helmer, Conley & Kasselman. We can help you.
