New Jersey DUI Lawyers Analyze Probabilities
Over the past month, the media has reported a series of DUI arrests involving players in the National Football League. Although NFL players are not necessarily at a higher risk of being arrested for DUI, these arrests make national headlines and receive extensive media coverage.
Last month, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested in Alabama for drunk driving and attempting to elude police. Vikings fullback Jerome Felton was arrested for driving under the influence in Minnesota while waiting in the drive-through lane at McDonald's. Justin Blackmon clocked a breathalyzer reading that was three times the legal limit while New York Giants lineman David Diehl was arrested for DUI after he crashed his car into several parked cars.
According to estimates, NFL players are arrested for DUI at the rate of 1 out of every 144. The national average rate is 1 out of 35. That indicates to New Jersey DUI lawyers that NFL players are not at a higher risk of DUI than the general population. However, because these players are superstars, news reports of their arrests receive much media attention.
Traditionally, young males are at a higher risk of DUI than the rest of the driving population. The National Football League is wholly made up of young males, automatically placing them at a higher risk of DUI. The National Football League has been cracking down on driving under the influence by its athletes. However, although the NFL imposes penalties on athletes caught driving under the influence, these ramifications do not seem to act as a deterrent.
