Description

Have you or a loved one been arrested or charged with a crime? Facing jail, fines, or license suspension? We can help you!

Our experienced team of criminal defense attorneys can help those charged with serious crimes including the following:

How We Can Help

Shorter Sentences
We can help those who are facing prison, or who are already in prison, shorten the amount of time served by doing the following:

  • changing their sentence to Intensive Supervised Parole
  • changing their sentence to a drug/alcohol inpatient treatment facility
  • maximizing the chances for parole

Without a proper defense, individuals on probation or parole can be sent to prison for violations.

Dismissals
Guilty people may have the case against them dismissed because their defense attorneys did the following:

  • proved the police violated the individuals' rights
  • negotiated a pre-trial intervention or conditional discharge

Expungments
Being convicted of a crime makes it difficult to get jobs. Your arrest records and/or conviction could be expunged (sealed), allowing you to answer truthfully "No" to the question, "Have you ever been arrested or convicted of a crime?" Call us to discuss if you qualify for an expungement.

Why Choose Us?

Helmer, Paul, Conley & Kasselman, P.A. defends thousands of people charged with crimes. Six former assistant county prosecutors with over 175 years of criminal litigation experience create a formidable team unmatched in New Jersey. Our New Jersey criminal defense attorneys know the strengths and weaknesses of our adversaries and their cases, and we fight to uphold your rights. It is important to understand your rights and legal procedure after an arrest.

Be confident that your attorney is experienced and knowledgeable about your type of case. When facing a criminal charge with possible prison time, fines, or loss of license, frequently the most important decision you have to make is who will defend you.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. The police did not read me my Miranda rights. Is that important?
It is important if you were in custody and answered questions that could hurt your case. If the judge decides that your rights were violated, then your answers (what you said to the police) cannot be used against you.
2. How long will the case take?
Usually a few months.  Each New Jersey county has thousands of cases and one to six judges. The amount of paperwork required for each case makes it almost impossible to move faster.
3. How much will it cost to defend me?
It depends on the seriousness and complexity of the case. We offer payment plan options to our clients.
4. Do I have to pay a fee for an initial consultation?
Unlike other firms, we do not charge for initial consultations in any criminal cases.
