Immigration Consequences of Criminal Activity
Understanding the Immigration Consequences of Crime
Many defendants plead guilty because they are offered a better deal than they would get if they lost a trial. If they are not American citizens, they risk deportation if they plead guilty to certain crimes.
It is never wise to plead guilty to anything without the advice of a competent NJ attorney who is familiar with Immigration law.
Many guilty people are not convicted of a crime or are accepted into diversionary programs and avoid a conviction. A good attorney may convince the prosecutor to reduce or dismiss the charges. An expungement sealing of a criminal conviction may not help an immigrant seeking to stay in this country legally. Our firm is fortunate to have experienced attorneys in both criminal defense and in immigration law.Click here to view recent news on Criminal Law.
